"A General Withdrawal is Ordered."

German 20 PM Comments Allied 20 PM Comments
Ger20PM.jpg (422608 bytes)As always, my main goal is still attrition. I believe that at least 3 US units will die and I've reduced two other para regiments. John will be hard-pressed to form a cohesive line in the center. But you know what? Everytime I've thought that before, John has been able to do it so I won't be surprised if he puts up another solid wall. The new difficulty for the US is that many of units are reduced and those are very 'fragile' in terms of being able to hold a line. As the Post-German 20PM move will show, the "Bulge" is really starting to stretch the US and now they're going to be forced out of the central 'woods' position. Tactical subtlety: My advances will be made such that there will be minimal abiity for the US to destroy bridges - defending behind a river is good for him but being in Light Woods will expose the defender to combined arms attacks. German Combat Notes:

Post German 20PM Commentary - With 2nd Pz Div out of fuel, I see a bit of the German southern punch mitigated this turn. The primary focus is on hex 1905 where Tom committed a very strong force to hurry up a clean out of this area. He succeeded in shocking the strongest unit, an armored command, while "rolling" a generous combat result. John cleverly responded by having Hodges take the next-to-the-last step loss and then having Monty order a stand fast. The result was one fragile, reduced regiment left in place to bog down the Germans. Tom has a few more turns to take advantage of the dearth of Allied units in the south before Patton et al make an appearance. As Tom pointed out, there is a thin shell of a defense in certain areas of the map. This will probably necessitate having to break up the powerful U.S. Third Armor and send it as a divided force into the front line.
