"March on Marche."Turn Navigator: German Combat Notes: Moderator Comments: Post German 21PM Comments - As predicted, Tom has broken the Ourthe
River Defense Line in strength. He tried to advance adjacent to Marche to
prevent the construction of a fort, but the die did not cooperate. I am
concerned about his somewhat open southern flank and the impending arrival of
Patton et al. The drawback of pursuing a far southern western drive is the
difficulty of setting up flank protection and the amount of territory between
Bastogne and the Meuse River. Unless the Allied defense encountered in this
pursuit is very thin, the Germans often end up "punching the woods."
One significant drawback to investing Bastogne and gambling on the fall of
Marche we have not discussed is the fact that Bastogne could have been attacked
with the defenders OOS, while, at Marche, the Allied Player can possibly use an
Air Drop to keep the fortification in supply (depending on the Time Record
Track). However, in this particular game, I don't forsee John having much
strength available to commit to a defense of Marche. |
